David Tomchak is Digital Editor-In-Chief at the Evening Standard, London’s leading daily newspaper. He’s responsible for editorial across all digital platforms and also leads on digital growth and innovation.

Under David’s leadership won four Drum Online Awards in 2019: Best National News Website, Best Campaign (Aids Free), Best Lifestyle News Website and the judges' "Best Website" grand prix.

David joined the Evening Standard in May 2017 with a clear mandate to accelerate the growing digital audience and commercial offering. There has since been widespread growth ­a 30% rise in unique visitors in the UK and 70% globally. In September 2018 the Evening Standard opened its first North American office, in New York, and over the past 12 months the Standard has diversified across everything from Voice AI to luxury affiliate sales. From January 2019 ES digital crossed the 100 million monthly page-view threshold.

David was previously Head of Digital at Number 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office and Deputy Director to the Government Communications Service. He has also worked at various broadcasters and publishers and started his career in product development in the financial sector. He founded and chairs the Artificial Intelligence In Media (AIIM) working group.
